From Your President

Are you as tired of the Winter weather as I am? Was March 20 really the first day of Spring? Our board is busy planning the events for the rest of the year, including dinner meetings, lunch meetings in St. Charles and the Metro-East, after-hours events in Kirkwood, Professional Development Days (PDDs), member activities for our 20th anniversary, PMP Prep courses, and ACP prep courses. Wow! That’s a lot of activities. Watch the weekly emails or check the web site for the specifics.

The 2013 Annual Report is complete and available on the Metro St. Louis web site. Click here to read about the exciting things accomplished by your chapter in 2013.  It is also available at the dinner meetings. Pick up your copy at the Member Services table. I think you will find it very informative!

The Metro St. Louis Chapter member count has been growing significantly this year. As of December 31, 2013 our count was 1,418 members. On March 25 we hit an all-time high of 1,502. Thank you to everyone who helps spread the word about PMI and our chapter!

We will celebrate our 20th anniversary as a chapter this year. Watch our web site (www.pmimsl.org) for some upcoming events.

The PMI Metro St. Louis Chapter has funded a scholarship through the PMI Educational Foundation. See the chapter web site page (http://pmimsl.org/content.php?page=Scholarship) or the PMI Educational Foundation Scholarship page (http://www.pmi.org/pmief/scholarship/) for more information. Scholarship applications are taken through the Educational Foundation web site.

Are you thinking about volunteering, but don’t know how to find out what is available with the Metro St. Louis Chapter? Check PMI’s VRMS for openings, descriptions, and timeframes. You can also ask chapter volunteers about their experiences and what is available on their team.

From Your President

Summer is finally here! I hope you are having a good one. Thanks to everyone who voted on the revised bylaws. The bylaws were updated in order to conform to the new PMI template and to update our board structure for future growth. We will be updating our board structure over the next two years. This year we will be voting for the following Vice Presidents: Programs, Marketing, Communications, Finance, and Professional Development. The term for each of these positions is two years. If you are interested in one of these positions, please contact Dirk Lupien at administration@pmimsl.org to get more information. In 2015 we will be voting for Vice Presidents of Administration and Governance, Membership, Volunteers, and Outreach and President-Elect. Again these are two year terms except for the President-Elect which is a four year commitment.

The PMI Metro St. Louis board has appointed a new liaison for the PMI Educational Foundation. Terry Bullock has accepted this position and is very excited about the opportunity. He is seeking volunteers to assist with getting the word out about our scholarship, teaching project management in our schools, and working with non-profit organizations to teach them the basics of project management. Watch VRMS for postings or you can contact me at president@pmimsl.org and I will forward your information to Terry. Also, Terry and I plan to do a “tutorial” before one of the upcoming dinner meetings to share more information with you about the Educational Foundation and our work in the Metro St. Louis area. Watch the weekly emails and/or the website for more information.

We have one of our 20th anniversary celebrations scheduled. We have purchased 103 tickets to attend the August 18 Cardinal baseball game against Cincinnati. Watch your email for your invitation.

As always, we have a lot going on and welcome you if you would like to volunteer.   Check PMI’s VRMS for openings, descriptions, and timeframes. Once you have opened VRMS select “Metropolitan St. Louis Chapter” under Communities to see what opportunities are available. You can also ask chapter volunteers about their experiences and what is available on their team.
