Please Note:

Tonight we will have 2 separate events. One is a Pre-Meeting event called Effective Mentoring:  If you coach them well, they will succeed!  This  event is scheduled prior to the Main Event, which is our Monthly Dinner meeting. The Pre-meeting will be 5:30-6:15 and is a discussion on the Mentor / Mentee relationship.  Registration is required, as we have to prepare materials.

The Main Event is our monthly Dinner Meeting which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you would like to come early you will have an opportunity to network with your peers or, if you signed-up, you can attend the Effective Mentoring Pre-Meeting session.  Also, if you attend the Pre-Meeting event, you will have the opportunity to earn 1 PDU!

Please choose the Ticket that is appropriate for your attendance as we have to prepare both the presentation materials as well as the facility.

PRE-MEETING TUTORIAL (Optional) : 5:30 PM - 6:15 PM

Main Event: Successful Projects are Built by Preparing for the Challenge: Putting your best (or only) foot forward!!

What is one hard truth that we ALL share? CHALLENGE. No project manager is exempt. Many successful PMs go a step further then experiencing it….they welcome and embrace it.

In this presentation, Eric McElvenny shares the story of his personal growth after the traumatic experience of losing his leg.  He uses his story as a playbook to demonstrate the attributes needed to tackle challenges PMs often encounter.  Eric teaches how to put your best foot forward.  Easy for him…he only has one.  While chaos seems to take over our busy lives, there are a number of habits that we can choose to implement in order to allow us to:

  • Live passionately and gratefully
  • Set and reach goals
  • Take ownership through consistency and discipline
  • Overcome communication barriers
  • Identify priorities

This entertaining presentation will inspire you to reflect on your own habits to begin the transformation necessary to overcome your personal and professional challenges.

 Main Presenter: Eric McElvenny

Eric is an amputee endurance athlete. He earned a mechanical engineering degree from the United States Naval Academy in 2006 while preparing for his service as a Marine Corps Infantry Officer. Eric deployed three times as a Marine and on his final tour, an incredible experience in Afghanistan, was wounded after stepping on an IED. Eric suffered the amputation of his right leg below the knee, a life-changing opportunity that began his next journey.

Faced with a physical challenge and an uncertain future, Eric set a goal to run an Ironman Triathlon. This become his project which tested his resolve, adaptability and character. On his journey from the hospital bed in southern California to the finish line in Kona Hawaii, he realized that the challenge and adversity he was up against and the techniques and principles he used to reach the finish line are the same as those we can all use in the various challenges we entertain. When not training, racing and delivering inspiration, Eric can be found with his wife Rachel and three children in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
