March 2023 Chapter Meeting: How Inclusive Communication Promotes Good Mental Health
Shaun is an experienced speaker who has been invited to share his perspective at conferences, in conference rooms and on panel discussions to address a wide range of topics including equity and inclusivity in implementing DEI programming, internal and external organizational communications, talent acquisition and HR processes, criminal justice and voting rights reform and other social justice endeavors. Shaun established his own JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) consulting, training, and strategy company (Conduit LLC) over four years ago where his first question and concern is always going to be about your internal and external communications and how your workflows and processes are being impacted. He is concerned with how members of your teams are communicating because it is a clear indication of the equity and inclusivity available to members from diverse backgrounds and with historically marginalized identifications. These identifications can include race, ethnicity, gender, disability status, age, religious and sexual preference, cultural practices, veteran status, and MAYBE the most stigmatized of them all: justice impacted. There are also many who possess multiple historically marginalized identities, which may intersect at certain points. Shaun offers different types of frameworks that address the gaps in communication and culture that develop when these members don't feel supported and valued thus decreasing the retention rate which negatively impacts the product, service, and profit margin. Shaun has continued to educate himself so that his perspective and work continues to evolve and be innovative including finishing up his BS in communication and preparing to pursue his MPH and MSW (dual degree) and recently completing a conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation fellowship.
