Pivot Point Collective
A peer-driven community helping project professionals navigate career transitions with support, practical insight, and connection.
What is Pivot Point?
Pivot Point is a PMIMSL member community designed to help project professionals navigate career transitions with the support of their peers. It combines structured topics with open discussion so members can share experiences, exchange practical advice, and stay connected during the job search process.
The goal is not job placement or formal coaching. It is a supportive space where professionals help each other move forward.
Why members join
- Stay motivated and accountable during a job search
- Exchange job search strategies and networking approaches
- Get feedback on resumes and interview preparation
- Learn from others’ wins and setbacks
- Build connections with project professionals in the St. Louis community
- Reduce the feeling of navigating a career transition alone
Why it’s called Pivot Point
Nearly every professional reaches a pivot point in their career. Sometimes the change is small, like moving to a new company or shifting roles within project management. Other times it is much larger, such as navigating a layoff, changing industries, or breaking into project management for the first time.
The word Collective reflects the community itself: a group of professionals supporting one another through those transitions. Sessions are facilitated peer discussions, not lectures.
How Pivot Point started
Pivot Point grew out of a real career transition experience following a large layoff. What started as a weekly virtual space to talk through challenges evolved into a supportive community where people shared job search strategies, interview experiences, networking tips, and lessons learned.
- Members shared both successes and setbacks
- The group expanded beyond the original company
- The community continued meeting until most members found new roles
Later, at a PMIMSL Speed Mentoring event, it became clear that many project professionals were facing similar challenges. That realization inspired the creation of Pivot Point within PMIMSL so members could benefit from the same kind of support network.
